Before we begin.
This information will help guide our engagement. While not exhaustive, these questions will help you think through your project requirements. Database connectivity or e-commerce adds additional complexity — we'll cover those details in our initial consultation.
01 Web Hosting
Points to consider:
- Do you need assistance with domain name registration and/or web hosting?
- If you host with Bryntel Technologies, how many e-mail accounts will you need?
- If you host your site with an outside source, Bryntel will need access to the C-Panel with that service.
- If the service is an entity other than Bluehost, Bryntel needs to know the specifications — MySQL databases, PHP installation and version information.
- What are the thresholds for web storage and traffic throughput? (unlimited is required)
- Does the facility have redundant power, redundant internet backbone access, and access to a live technician on-site?
A note on hosting support:
The person calling support needs to be experienced enough to actually know what's causing the problem before placing that call. Here's why:
- Hosting companies will never readily admit they are having problems.
- Server software patches and upgrades are happening 24/7 — many are poorly tested before implementation, creating quirky anomalies in your site.
- Patches can affect the operating system, web serving software, or environment partitioning. We recommend checking every 18 months to ensure you're on current hardware.
- Customer density on shared servers affects performance during peak periods. This is monitored in real-time in the NOC (network operations center).
We view Bluehost as a premier provider — they have the best record of addressing problems we've encountered at Bryntel.
02 Content
Points to consider:
- What content do you envision including?
- Format of site (custom HTML, mobile-enabled, etc.)
- Have you looked at other websites for ideas that appeal to you?
- Do you currently have a web presence? Are you reworking an existing site or implementing something completely new?
- Bryntel will need access to all locations (old and new), and the domain registration service if different from your current host.
- Do you have a logo? Will you require additional artwork?
- Describe any visual elements or styles to use (usually from existing marketing materials).
- How will text content be delivered to Bryntel Technologies?
- Will text require editing, formatting, spell checking?
- How long are the documents, on average?
- Do you need assistance with copywriting?
- How many graphics/photographs do you plan to include?
- In what form can artwork be provided? (.jpg, .png, .tiff, .bmp, etc.)
03 Design Style
Points to consider:
- Design style/tone? (Conservative, progressive, friendly, formal, casual, serious, expert, humorous, service-oriented, professional)
- Message you want to convey?
- Color preferences?
- Any preferences as to rollover buttons?
- Menu style?
- 3D look?
- Left-hand or top navigation?
- Target launch date?
- Factors surrounding this deadline?
- What will updates and additions likely consist of?
- About how many updates during the year after launch?
Web Marketing & Promotion:
- How important are search engine results to your website?
- Will you need assistance with opt-in e-mail marketing, pay-per-click, or other services?
- Do you need Google Analytics and/or website statistical analysis?
- Do you require SEO (search engine optimization)?
